As of January 13, 2010, 14 chemical substances have been added by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern for authorization.
On December 7, 2009, ECHA had identified 15 chemical substances that would be added to the list. However, the inclusion of acrylamide (EC No 201-173-7 and CAS No 79-06-1) has been suspended until further notice.

The Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) entered into force on June 1, 2007, to streamline and improve the former legislative framework for chemicals of the European Union (EU). ECHA manages the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction processes for chemical substances to ensure consistency across the countries in which REACH applies.
