The Illinois Senate has passed an amendment package to the state's Lead Poisoning Prevention Act (LPPA), incorporating several changes proposed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (DPH). This is awaiting the Governor's signature.
Senate Bill 1943 amends the LPPA to ensure that the proper labeling is included on body piercing jewelry and jewelry that may be worn by children. It also changes the definition of a "toy containing paint," and re-defines a "toy containing paint" as a toy with any accessible component containing such as paint, ink, lacquer, or screen printing. There is an exemption, for electronic products if the parts in that may contain lead are inaccessible.
