Updates on U.S. BPA Regulations

January 20, 2011

Two New England states – Maine and Massachusetts – recently banned bisphenol A (BPA) in baby bottles and sippy cups.

In addition to the ban, Maine designated BPA as a "priority chemical" and will require reporting of the presence of BPA in toys and other children's products.  An effective date is still to be determined.

Massachusetts' ban on the sale and manufacture of baby bottles and sippy cups containing BPA took effect January 1, 2011 for manufacturers and will take effect July 1, 2011 for retailers.
