IAF, AAFA and Modint recently co-hosted a seminar that focused on global harmonization of restricted substances programs for various consumer goods.
The International Apparel Federation (IAF), the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA), and Modint (the Dutch trade association for fashion, interior design, carpets, and textiles), recently presented a seminar on "Product Safety and Restricted Substances Regulations" in Paris, France.
This was the first seminar of its kind where American and European Associations met and worked together to harmonize restricted substances programs.
As part of the seminar, Dr. Anne Bonhoff of STR presented on the topic of "Understanding Testing and How to Implement a Chemical Management Program." Dr. Bonhoff explained that the basis for a successful chemical management program is a proper understanding of testing, including which tests are relevant for which kind of materials; in which stages of production testing is applicable; and how to minimize testing cost without compromising quality or compliance.
