The FDA will make detailed product recall information available to the public via its website as early as this fall, according to recent news reports.

Details – including the product brand name, the name of the company that manufactures the product, a description of the recalled product, and the reason for the recall – will be available online in tabular form and also in XML format for anyone who wants to download and reuse the data. 

The scope of the information available will include all food, drug, and medical device recalls that occur throughout the year, as well as past high profile incidents such as the recalls of peanuts, peanut butter, and pistachios due to salmonella contamination.
