Helping brands assess economic, social, political, and labor risk across 180+ countries
Examining the economic, social, political, and labor rights, the UL Responsible Sourcing Country Risk Index is designed to help brands plan sourcing activities for over 180 countries. Measuring the social and labor risks companies may face as their manufacturing activities cross borders, this analytical tool provides an understanding of the risk levels associated with sourcing in a specified region on a macro-level (economic, social, and political) as well as a micro-level (labor rights and labor law violations issues).
Economic and social liabilities do not necessarily occur independently, and country risk is a combination of adverse factors coming together to impact a society. The Country Risk Index draws from a quantitative composite of four internationally recognized indices and two proprietary UL Responsible Sourcing indices. Chosen for their social and labor relevance to potential risks that may impact a country’s social conditions, these factors represent the potential liabilities that may occur in work environments, such as the failure of an employer to properly pay wages, or the illegal hiring of child labor, or dangerous health and safety practices.
